Dodd, based on the late author’s time in Vietnam as a US agricultural expert sent to South Vietnam to increase rice yields. The ‘forgotten’ manuscript was rediscovered in lockdown and later published. It has extra author autobiographical elements - a letter from President Johnson, a Foreword, an Afterword, a scholarly Appendix. It even has two endings and bookclub questions! But at its heart is a moving novel. 💕
